Founded in 1957 by Walter Beecroft, the Essex Open Art Exhibition was created to celebrate and showcase the creative talent of region.

Now in its 61st year, the exhibition continues to showcase the diversity, creativity, and vibrancy of artists working across Essex. As the region’s largest and longest running open exhibition, the Essex Open remains a cornerstone of the Beecroft Art Gallery’s programme, offering a vital platform for both emerging talent and established practitioners. This year’s edition continues Beecroft’s legacy with fresh energy, wide ranging perspectives, and the unmistakable spirit of Essex’s artistic landscape.
