About the Event
This event has been cancelled - apologies for any inconvenience.
Join us on 30 April from 6 - 8 pm, alongside the Beecroft Art Gallery's 'This Is What An Essex Girl Looks Like' exhibition, to create our own self-published zines. We're challenging the typical 'Essex Girl' stereotype, writing our own narratives and documenting our experiences in a relaxed, creative form of self-care through collage, writing and drawing.
We'll also learn about the history of zine-making and the women who came before us- as well as taking a look at the Grrrl Zine Library, which is permanently housed at The Old Waterworks in Westcliff-on-sea.
They'll be an opportunity to duplicate our zines to share with friends, family or to distribute throughout town.
Zines can also be donated to the exhibition for display or public reading.
Hosted by founder of Grrrl Zine Fair Lu Williams, zine workshops through Grrrl are presented as an adaptable way of making outside of academic or capitalist endeavours. Zine making is made accessible to communities outside of the art world and can be used as a way of self-expression, a tool, or practice of self-care.
All materials provided. Drinks & snacks included. The venue is accessible.
