The Essex Feminist Forum

Beecroft Art Gallery

23rd December 2021 Onwards

This exciting exhibition is a dynamic and evolving space in which we encourage discussion with each other, and interaction with different representations of what it means to identify as a woman in Essex. The space will showcase a selection of different projects developed through the project ‘Snapping the Stiletto’.

The Forum will open with a stunning exhibition of traditional costumes made and worn by the local Chinese community during festivals. The exhibition is co-curated in collaboration with the Colchester Chinese Cultural Society.

It will also showcase other projects and artworks created as a result of workshops and commissions all done by women in Essex. These include the ‘Diary of the Pandemic Year,’ the stories of 16 women who took part in a writing workshop with Essex author Syd Moore.

From January the forum will host an exhibition showcasing the changing styles and traditions in Muslim wedding dresses from three generations of local families.
