The Colchester Art Society is a key part of Colchester's cultural life and is one of Essex's foremost exhibiting organisations for painters, sculptors and printmakers. It was established in 1946 by a group of artists based in the Colchester School of Art to foster interest in the visual arts. Among the founder members were John Nash and Cedric Morris. There are currently around 290 members, many of whom are highly regarded professional artists who exhibit beyond Colchester. The exhibition at the Beecroft will feature work from our current members as well as a selection from the Society's own permanent collection.
