Central Museum Breaking Barriers
Breaking Barriers: Looking at Women’s Suffrage in Essex
will tour throughout
Rachel Gadsden, the award
winning artist, worked as part of the
Breaking Barriers project, with groups from Rethink, a national
charity that works with people who have and who are recovering from severe
mental illness.
With these images Rachel
then created an original work that looks at both the story of past and
present. It expresses the community voices in

11th July to 5th September Beecroft Art Gallery 51st Essex Open Exhibition
If you are an artist living or working in Essex and are over 18 this the annual opportunity to enter the prestigious Essex Open Exhibition. Selection is by prominent people in the art world and there are generous sponsored awards for various categories.
A maximum of 3 works per artist is allowed. Fees are; £6 one entry, £10 two entries and £12 three entries. Entry forms and rules are available for download here:

Talks by Laura McLean the
Finds Liaison Officer for Hands on activities including woad design face painting,
Saxon helmet, shield and necklace making, mini digs and daily tours of the
Priory’s archaeology.
£1 to take part in activities.
25th July Archaeology Family Fun Day 10.00am to 3.00pm Hands on fun a chance to make and decorate a thumb pot to
take home, practise your excavation techniques, quizzes, woad design face
painting, handling sessions, display of prized local archaeology, regular
tours of The Priory’s archaeology.
£1 to take part in activities.
29th July Knap Happy – Flint-knapping Demonstration - British Festival of Archaeology 10.00am to 3.00pm Final day of the festival, all day
demonstrations of flint-knapping, mini digs, handling sessions, find out
more about local archaeology, make your own Saxon King helmet, shield and
necklace, have your face painted with woad designs, take tour of the
Priory’s grounds. £1 to take part in activities. |

annual Tudor Day, giving residents and visitors a taste of Tudor times.

return of our popular session for children 8 - 14 years, giving them the
chance to explore the Universe in the Planetarium, make and launch a water
powered rocket, land a lunar module, and take part in arts activities with a
space theme!Tickets are on sale from the Central Museum. Price £8.50, with reductions for Advantage Card holders.

Heritage Open Day
Southchurch Hall will open on a Sunday to part take in
the national celebration of our heritage. There will be tours of this
wonderful Tudor farmhouse as well as an opportunity to see butter churning
demonstrations and other aspects of Tudor farm life. |

The last of our very popular astronomy open nights for 2009.
This is our autumn Moonwatch, and visitors will be able to view the Moon and other celestial objects through the powerful telescopes of the Castle Point Astronomy Club.
